About The Band
Q&A With Ed Chevy
by Ronald Deese, BN.com contributor
I interviewed Beethoven’s Nightmare Bass Guitarist Ed Chevy about the band, deaf rock, and their plans for the future. This is what he had to say.
Q: What kind of music do you play?
We play hard-driving, rocking music, bending on volume and pulsating rhythm. Deaf Rock Music consists of a heavy beat of bass and drums, interacting with a high level of visual art light work.
Q: Who are your musical influences?
Hank Williams, Eddie Cochran, The Byrds, Sha Na Na, Black Sabbath, Ramones, and Joe Satriani were all my greatest influences. But if I were to choose just one, it would be Black Sabbath.
Q: Being deaf, could you describe how you experience music?
I realized that music is the creation of body language, communicating the universal language of the soul with or without words. I became aware that music itself has wider appeal and is an essential part of life. The language of music belongs to all people. Music is the language of perceiving by feeling.
A lot of people have asked me why I choose to play music. I always tell them that I'm challenging myself. Ideally, music is NOT in the basement of Deaf Culture.
